The token-agnostic argument for a digital currency
There are few debates as polarizing as cryptocurrency. Some love it. Some hate it. Some like Bitcoin. Some like Ethereum. Some simply do not understand it.
Personally, I am not sure what the end state looks like. I have my hypotheses. Regardless, my work at Replit has only furthered my conviction: a digital currency is inevitable.
Most importantly, I believe history supports it. Currency is a technology. It is a tool to facilitate our economies. It started with bartering. Progressed to stone and metals. It took thousands of years to make the leap to paper. Today, it is primarily a number on a screen that a bank tells us.
Publishing with The Archive
This week, I published a piece with The Archive. It is a long-form essay that has two parts.
Part 1: The history of currency. How did we go from bartering to our current financial system? I break it down.
Part 2: Current macro-cycles. Why do we need a digital currency? What about our current financial system is failing? I walk through a few pillars of macro-cycles that make a digital currency of some capacity inevitable (and logical).
The Ask
This was really fun for me, and it is a great opportunity to write among other great writers. Admittedly, it has slowed down my deep-dives (if you noticed), but they will return.
I do not profit off my writing at all (although it did get me a job at Replit!). If you like my work, then there are ways you can support me, so I can get continued access to companies for deep-dives + writing opportunities like this:
Feedback - I read every comment, tweet, email response that I get to these. This is a learning mechanism. Please share your thoughts. I spent 20 years as an athlete at high-levels… you will not hurt my feelings! Especially for this piece!
Engage - Like this post. Comment. Share the LinkedIn post. Share the tweets. Not only do I want to hear from you, but it helps boost algorithms!
Share - If you think posts are relevant, then please forward!
What’s next?
I will continue to write. The next writeup is a behemoth, but it is coming in a week or two. Been at it for two months! While I have begun to invest in these companies, I will continue to make this free to all readers & refrain from profiting. It avoids conflicts, and it allows me to focus on my passion… building Replit & learning about other cool companies.
